Burrill in Brazil
Thursday, July 12, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM (BST)
London, United Kingdom
Anthony Burrill, Francesca Wade and Barbara Soalheiro from Mesa & Cadeira, will be holding a seminar talking about the philosophy and process of the workshop and their experiences in São Paulo.
In March this year, British graphic artist Anthony Burrill was invited to lead a six day workshop in São Paulo, Brazil.
Organized by Mesa&Cadeira, the course was attended by 12 local designers, writers and art directors and focused on how to say the most with the least, an equation Anthony has mastered during his 20 year career working across a range of media, for clients like Wallpaper, London Underground, Colette in Paris, among others. The group worked together on a simple brief: to produce a collection of phrases that best expressed their individual life philosophy.
The resulting work – an alluring combination of Anthony’s up-beat approach and Brazil’s current optimism – is displayed as a large scale text installation inspired by vernacular street typography found in the city. This forms How to say the most with the least (Quanto mais olho para trás, mais milagres eu vejo), which will be on show at the gallery from the 5th — 28th July.
